Coffee Table on Wheels - Living in Small Spaces

Who needs a coffee table on wheels? If you live in a small apartment or if you have a very limited living space, chances are good that you do! There are plenty of people out there who move around from small space to small space, and there is a good chance that you are one of them. When you are looking to save space, a few tips can help out when it comes to figuring out how to make the most of the space that you have.

Round Black Coffee Tables

1.Everything in its place

Round Black Coffee Tables

If you don't have a designated space for everything you own, you are going to find that you are going to be dealing with a perpetual mess. Think about good options for shelving, store things that you are currently not using.

2.Tuck it away!

One thing that can make your place look larger is the use of things that get folded away when they are not in use. The aforementioned coffee table on wheels is a great example of this. When you are done, roll it away and get some more walking space.

3.Build up

What kind of shelving can you put up? The more things that are not on the floor, the larger your place will feel. This can go a long way towards getting you the results that you are interested in. You can use the wheeled coffee table as a place to put your extra blankets, pillows, CD's, and DVD's.

4.Don't skimp on trash cans

If you find that you are fighting clutter and trash every time you turn around, make sure that you put a trash can down near the location. Even a small apartment may need two or three small wastebaskets, so make sure that you are meeting that need as it arises.

There are plenty of ways and means to get your small living space back to where it needs to be. Understand your space, design for your needs, and make sure that you take a look and see what a coffee table on wheels can do for you!

Interior Design Retro Style

You've made the decision to completely revamp your home and you've decided you'd like it to be in Retro style but just how do you go about incorporating that into your home. First of all it might help to have an understanding of what a Retro design style actually is.

Round Black Coffee Tables

What is Retro?

Round Black Coffee Tables

The post war fifties and psychedelic sixties saw a move towards more brighter and bolder colours most likely as a backlash to doom and gloom of the war torn forties. Basically, Retro style of interior design can be described as taking a little bit of the past few decades into the present in order to create a new style of interior design that is both modern and fun. As there is so much material to choose from, what you decide to include will ultimately be your own interpretation of the past, so entirely unique.

During each of the past three decades there have been different materials, shapes, colours, artefacts, and gadgets that have left a lasting impression on all of us. These days, anything from the 50's, 60's or even the 70's is fashionable again. However, because there are so many different ways to go about incorporating a Retro style into your home, it can be difficult to know where to start. There isn't a standard look that can be described as Retro and yet everyone is able to recognise it when they see it.

Where to start

The first step would be to browse through magazines and search on the Internet, visit show rooms and exhibitions for the colour schemes, furniture, layouts etc. that appeal to you. Ask yourself what artefacts have been used, how the furniture is laid out, what it is made of, look at the lighting and any effect it creates, take note of the colour schemes, the ornamental touches and don't forget the wall and floor coverings. From there you can literally mix and match elements that appeal to your own taste to produce a retro style that reflects your own identity with the past.

Getting the look

After the war new materials were being produced that led to a dramatic change in styles during the fifties and sixties, for example, Formica, plastic, fibreglass and plywood were introduced. The mood of the people was buoyant, and the future looked bright, consequently so were the colour schemes. For example:

* Turquoise

* Jade

* Mint green

* Pink

* Sunshine yellow

* Cherry red

* Blue

* Black and White

Highly polished chrome was very popular and used for furniture or for ornamental purposes. The furniture was often abstract in style with weird and wonderful shapes. Think of low lying round or oval or kidney shaped coffee tables, or anything in a curvy boomerang type shape. Teak and Pine were popular materials. Blow up furniture was introduced along with disposable materials like cardboard so no longer did furniture have to last for years; it was possible to change the look of your home as often as you felt the urge.

Who could possibly forget GPlan furniture that was all the rage and that revolutionised home interiors? For the first time, people could develop a coordinated look to their home over a period of time and mix and match pieces to create their own style.

Imagine black and white chequered linoleum offset against chrome furniture and black vinyl coverings. What about the wet look wall paper and bold floral patterns? Or even the bright and bold red and black contrasting colour schemes.

Geometric patterns and shapes were ever popular and as the space age was well and truly upon us during the fifties and sixties wall hangings, shapes, pictures, lamps, ornaments or anything that was reminiscent of space was well and truly in. For example, rockets, the planets, satellites, and space ships were very trendy and atomic wall clocks were a feature in the most fashionable of homes.

Finally

Visit antique shops or search on eBay to pick up vintage ornaments and objects in order to complete the vintage Retro look. There aren't any hard and fast rules about what you should or shouldn't include and that is what makes the Retro style so excitingly different. Don't be afraid to be bold with your design ideas, as long as it looks good to you and feels right then you can't really go wrong.

Top 5 Reasons To Add A Papasan Chair To Your Home

Papasan chairs first reached mainstream popularity in the West back in the 1970's, following introduction in the U.S in the 1950's, and have been a feature of homes throughout Great Britain ever since. But why are Papasan Chairs so popular?

Round Black Coffee Tables

1) Comfort While visual appeal is always an important factor in choosing furniture for the home, it absolutely must be comfortable to use and this is where Papasan Chairs come into their own! The large round cushion sits inside the frame producing a 'bowl like' effect, allowing you to sink deep inside in a reclined position. The circular design means that you still have freedom of movement of the arms making the chair an ideal place to read the newspaper, watch the television, or even to play on your games console! Papsasan Chairs Sets are also available including footstools and side tables for further comfort and convenience.

Round Black Coffee Tables

2) Aesthetics Papasan Chairs are most commonly crafted from rattan, a material which easily accepts paints, stains and varnishes, meaning that you can find them in almost every colour imaginable! Most commonly found in either natural rattan colours to complement the hand crafted design, but also sometimes available in darker stains such as Mahogany or even Black. The neutral coloured chair frames are ideal for allowing you to experiment with fabrics, of which a huge variety are available. The fabric choice of the main chair cushion can often be complimented with either matching or contrasting scatter cushions - a plain fabric for the main cushion can be effectively contrasted with a bold pattern on the scatters for a stunning visual effect.

3) Versatility The smaller size of the Papasan Chair in relation to more traditional upholstered armchairs, makes it the ideal addition to a variety of rooms, from the bedroom to the conservatory, without having to compromise of the seating area or comfort. And because the chair is so much lighter than alternative styles, it can be easily moved from room to room as you require!

4) Environmental Papasan Chairs are most commonly made from rattan, a material with excellent Green Credentials - Rattan is grown in area's that can not support traditional harvests by wrapping itself around tree's that might otherwise be threatened by deforestation. Because of this, rattan actually discourages this process and it's harvesting provides a labour intensive industry in some of the poorest regions of South East Asia.

5) Low Cost, Great Value Papasan Chairs and Papasan Chair Sets are available from suppliers such as Just Cane at a fraction of the price of traditional upholstered armchairs - at the time of writing (10th February 2011) you can purchase a chair for as little as £139, or a set including footstool and table for just £199. This represents excellent value for a piece of furniture that will last you for many years to come!

Unique Coffee Tables

Is your home décor unique? If so you need unique coffee tables to match that style.
These incredible and beautiful singular style coffee tables have been finding their way into unique American homes for a very long time.

Round Black Coffee Tables

Unique tables have been prominent in the homes of Americans since the 17th century when they became popular in the west.
And if you are looking for different and unique tables you have very many different types to choose from. They come in all kinds of different styles and shapes and sizes.

Round Black Coffee Tables

No matter how different your home décor is there is a type of coffee table that will match it perfectly.

Unique Coffee Tables And Functionality

There are so many styles of unique coffee tables: Aquarium coffee tables, black leather coffee tables, mosaic coffee tables, bamboo coffee tables, oversized ottoman coffee tables, L shaped coffee tables, clock coffee tables, waterfall coffee tables, fire pit coffee tables, and many more.
And when you look for a unique table you definitely want to keep in mind what functions you want it to perform. It's not just something to look at. It's much better if it actually does something to!

Three of the most popular functions are storage, lift top, and eating meals.
With a storage table you can use it to put away extra clutter like books or magazines.
There are different types of storage tables. There are storage coffee tables with many drawers, with two or three drawers, and even storage tables that are trunks.

If you decide to get a trunk coffee table you should check out a dark oak trunk table. These are very elegant and will be an excellent conversation starter.
Unique coffee tables with glass tops are an excellent place to put artwork or beautifully designed coffee table books.

The glass top enhances what you display and also because of the transparency creates the illusion of more space.

Picking The Perfect Unique Coffee Tables

You can find distinct coffee tables in sets or as individual pieces. They should always match and compliment your other home furnishings. All the decor in your home should follow a single style. This keeps a solid flow throughout your home.
If you are going for a more traditional style in your home décor, unique coffee tables made of rich, dark wood are what you want to consider. If you want a more trendy, contemporary style for your home then you would want coffee tables made of different metals or glass.

The size of your singular coffee tables is also a very important consideration. If you have larger scale furniture you want your coffee tables to be larger in scale also. A room can look odd and unbalanced if the coffee table is disproportionately larger or smaller than your other furniture.

Keeping this in mind you should determine what size coffee table will best fit your space.
You don't want to purchase a coffee table only to realize when you get it home that you don't have space for it because it's too big or that you have too much space because it's too small.

Decide on the design too. If you want something simple then go for simplicity in design. If you want something grand try something with intricate designs. If you want to use your unique coffee table to serve guests then consider a lift top or something equally functional.
Whatever function or style you need you will be able to find unique coffee tables that will serve that need.

101 Frugal Christmas Tips

We have had many times throughout the years that we had to be very tight around Christmas. I have a ton of tips and ideas to help you have an affordable Christmas as well as find fun and...CHEAP things to do with your family!

Round Black Coffee Tables

101 Affordable Christmas Gifts, Activities and Tips

Round Black Coffee Tables

1. Bake. This is a great way to get the kids involved as well. Bake some cookies, cupcakes or make a yummy candy. Buy some inexpensive colored cellophane and tie it up pretty-or use paper lunch bags, wrapping paper, colorful tins, or whatever is inexpensive and available to you. You can find TONS of wrapping options at the dollar store.

2. Insist in a Price Limit. Some of us have family/friend gift swaps. Set a low price limit that is AFFORDABLE to your family. It really is NOT...or should not be about the price anyway.

3. Feed the Hungry. Buy some groceries and donate them to a local food bank. You can also serve food at a local soup kitchen. Doing this as a family will teach your children the importance of caring for the poor. Habits started in childhood stay with us for a lifetime!

4. Use your talents. It's FREE! If you are great at organizing, give the gift of a few hours to a friend to help them get organized in an area of their home. If you knit, make something special for someone on your list. If you are great with taxes, offer to do them for a friend or loved one. Skies the limit with this one, ladies.

5. Dollar Tree Christmas. I know this sounds crazy, however, things were so incredibly tight for us one year, that we literally ONLY had dollars to spend on Christmas. Period. So, each of us got to spend at the dollar store on each other. It was the BEST Christmas we have had to date. The torch lighter my husband got me that year is my favorite all time gift and it works FAR better than the more pricy one we received years later!

6. Homemade Gifts. Grandma and Grandpa are sure to love a hand made gift over a store bought one from their little love bugs. It is also a great idea for us Moms too!

7. Volunteer. Visit an elderly home and read books to them. Volunteer where you are needed. There are MANY opportunities in every community! Again, get the family involved!

8. Make your Own Decorations. Threading old beads, popcorn and/or macaroni through yarn can be made into a fabulous garland. One year, my daughter cut out two large strips of an old disposable table cloth I got from the dollar store. She made a pretty bow for each of my lamps. The color worked perfectly and it added a nice touch. You can also make a wreath with pine cones and extra greenery type garland. Get your creative juices flowing and you are sure to come up with some great ideas!

9. Start a Tradition. Each year, have a cookie decorating, gift wrapping or some other contest. Make sure you have some sort of "bragging rights" statue for the winner to keep for the year. There are a few other ideas in this list as well...

10. Sing-a-Long. This is something fun we do at my care group each year. If you have a large family, this can be quite a hoot. Using the 12 days of Christmas song, each group or couple...depending on size of your family gets one part (or two if small family) to sing. It really is hilarious the way each group sings and how it all comes together. We have some real hams in our group that make this a hilarious activity.

11. Wrap Cheap. Make your own paper mâché type wrap. Let the kids color decorative pictures on construction paper and use it to wrap. Reuse last year's gift bags you received. You can even use old grocery store paper bags or those cute reusable bags they make nowadays. Be creative with what you have...the wrapping goes in the trash anyway!

12. After Christmas Sales. This is a GREAT time to buy decorations, gifts and stuff for next year's holiday season. You have to plan it though, so you actually have a few bucks to invest. It is worth it in the long run with the money you will save!

13. Sell your Stuff. This is a great way to earn some extra money for the holidays. Have a garage sale, sell on ebay, put an ad in the paper for big items. Take stock and see what you have that can bring in a few extra bucks!

14. Go Caroling. Some neighborhoods do this as a group. Otherwise, start your own caroling gig. Get friends, family and neighbors involved and have fun blessing someone else!

15. Have a Pot Luck. Instead of doing it all yourself and spending far too much time and money, let everyone get involved. It's a great way to try other dishes, bond, and get the family working together to save money!

16. Go Looking at Christmas Lights. Every year, we put some hot cocoa in travel mugs, get a cozy blanket and all snuggle up in the car while looking at Christmas lights around town. We are quite the critiques you know-Look out! LOL!

17. Attend Church on Christmas Eve. Many churches have a Christmas Eve service. This is yet again another free activity to do with your family!

18. Acts of Random Kindness. Pay for the person's toll, fast food meal, etc. behind you. Help someone put their groceries in the car. Offer to go grocery shopping for an elderly person. Get creative with kindness and it is sure to spread around and come back around your way! It's the Biblical law of sowing and reaping!

19. Make Candy Apples! Yummy! Caramel, candy, nuts, etc. Give some away to friends and family-or keep them all to yourself! LOL!

20. Read the Christmas Story. If you can get dad to do this, that's awesome. Make it a big production. Hot cocoa, tree lights on, etc. Then have "father" read the story of Christmas.

21. Scrapbook Fun. Take last year's pictures and create a scrapbook as a family. Each person gets their own stack of pictures and pages they can make.

22. Shop Online Outlets. Amazon has tons of gifts in many different price ranges!

23. Garage Sales. You would be surprised the re-giftable treasures you can find at a good garage sale!

24. Black Friday and Cyber Monday. These are both GREAT money saving days to shop. Companies are competing for YOUR business!

25. iTunes. Purchase a - iTunes gift card for the music lover in your life.

26. Calendar. Have a friend that loves kittens? Get her a calendar with cute kittens for each month. This works for ANY person...golfer, fisher, precious moments, cows, etc. You know what your family and friends like. This is a cheap...yet personal gift!

27. Make a Coupon Book. This is always fun. Create a special book of things you will do for someone on your list. What you put in the book really depends on who the gift is for. However, here are a few ideas: back massage (hubbie would love this), clean house, hug, lunch, spa day, an hour of your time, etc...

28. Nativity Fun! You can make one as a family using stuff you have in your house. You can have each member make their own and make it a special "bragging rights" contest of who made the best each year. You can even act out the story as a family-or get the kids to put on a show for you. So many options.

29. Advent. You can find books and info Online to help you do your own Advent celebration activities.

30. Have a costume contest. The rules: Must have something to do with Christmas and can ONLY use stuff you have in your house. Then, vote for who has the best. Oh, and each family member must vote for ONE other member -NOT themselves!

31. Something Old. Re-gift something you received that you have not opened and most likely will not use in the next 100 years. NO there is NOTHING wrong with re-gifting! Especially if money is tight. Just don't re-gift to the one who got you the gift! Um...Awkward! LOL!

32. Gift Card Deals. A lot of companies offer gift card deals. You just have to take the time to find them. For example: you can get a gift card for . Look Online...you may find yourself a great deal!

33. Cards. Create homemade cards and write a special message to the person receiving it. Make it personal and it is sure to be a favorite!

34. White Elephant. This is always fun. Have a party. Make sure everyone brings a dish to share. Don't break the bank decorating either. Then, have each person bring a gift valued between - depending on what you think everyone's budget will be. I have been to parties with limits and limits. I had a BLAST at all of them! Make the limit what YOU can afford! Look up "White Elephant" party on Google for rule variations.

35. Donate. Have the family go through their rooms and closets looking for things to donate to those less fortunate. It will make space for new gifts as well as bless another human being!

36. Nuts. They sell these in bulk, bags and in cans. You can create your own pretty jar, bag, etc. Nuts are a yummy, inexpensive and nice gift to give.

37. Recipe in a Bag. Do you have a cookie, cake, sauce, pasta or bread recipe that people love? Put all the dry ingredients in a pretty bag/jar with a recipe card of what else they need and how to make it!

38. Clay. Use clay to create a nativity scene, ornaments, etc. Kids love to play with clay and play-dough. Let them get creative with the Christmas theme. You can also find instructions Online as to how to make your clay creations last for years and years.

39. Family Pics. Grandparents love pictures as gifts. If you can get your pictures made, do that and put it in a pretty frame. Otherwise, take them yourself, develop and put it in a pretty frame. Either way, the grandparents are sure to love them!

40. Snowflakes. Making snowflakes was always fun as a child. All it takes is scissors, white paper, crayons/markers, glue and glitter!

41. Journal. I love journals. This is a frugal gift idea for the writer in your life. You can find them anywhere for -. Be sure and write a heartfelt note to add a special touch to it!

42. Twelve Days of Christmas Fun! Each day do something fun that relates to that verse of the song. I included a few ideas, but please do not limit yourself to them...you may think of something better!
A Partridge in a Pear: make a pear tart, roast pears or make a pear jam. 2 Turtle Doves: make candy turtles, draw turtles, do some sort of turtle craft, or go to the pet store and look at turtles. (Yes, I know turtle doves are birds, but there are other birds in the song! LOL) 3 French Hens: make your family's favorite chicken recipe. Learn a French recipe that uses chicken or poultry and make it as a family! 4 Calling Birds: go on a nature walk and see if you can find 4 different types of birds-or 4 different birds calling! Do a bird craft. 5 Golden Rings: make homemade napkin rings. I am sure you can find a ton of ideas if you just Google "napkin ring craft". 6 Geese a Laying: make fabergé eggs. Simply poke a small hole in the top and bottom of a large egg. Make sure you allow all of the egg to empty out, rinse and dry. Then decorate with paint, jewels, etc. 7 Swans a Swimming: give the kids a bubble bath, make homemade bubbles and have fun blowing bubbles with them, or go to the park and feed the ducks! 8 Maids a Milking: make chocolate or colored milk, go milk a cow if you have a local farm, read a book about where milk comes from, or just eat milk duds! 9 Ladies Dancing: dance around the house and get silly with your kids to Christmas music, do a dance slipper craft, watch a dance. 10 Lords Leaping: Put on praise music and LEAP in the joy of the Lord. Play leap frog, go look for frogs, draw frogs, read about frogs, etc. Forget frogs and think of another idea! LOL! 11 Pipers Piping: make homemade wind instruments. Google; pipe craft, trumpet craft, etc. Watch a band or listen to wind instruments. 12 Drummers Drumming: make a homemade drum, play the drums, use different items to hear the different "drum" noises, listen to the little drummer boy song, watch the little drummer boy...

43. Beauty Bag. This can be all done at a dollar store, or the dollar sections at Walmart/Target. Get a cute inexpensive cosmetic bag and add some nail polish, samples, eyeshadow and other inexpensive beauty items. Fabulous idea for the teenage girl in your life!

44. Share a Recipe. Do you have a friend that has been begging you for a certain recipe? Why not give it to her!? What's the big secret?? Who will have it when you are dead? Spread the love. Write it out on a pretty decorative recipe card and show her how much you love her. Better yet, make it an invite instead...have her over and SHOW her how to make the recipe!

45. Candy Jar. This is a nice gift for the chocolate lover in your life. You can find an inexpensive and pretty jar just about anywhere. Fill it with Hershey kisses, tootsie rolls or some other favorite sweet treat.

46. Year Round. Instead of waiting for last minute shopping. Try starting right after Christmas and keeping an eye out for sales all year long. IN the long run, you will save money and time by carefully doing a little at a time.

47. Scavenger Hunt. This can be a fun family tradition. Create an age appropriate scavenger hunt for the kids/family. Make it fun and have some sweet treats along the way. In the end whoever wins gets to open one present. Make sure you have some small things for the runner ups so there are no hard feelings!

48. Local Tree Lighting Ceremony. A lot of towns have a tree lighting ceremony down town. It is a free activity to do as a family.

49. Make ornaments. Have your kids make special homemade ornaments to give to the Grandparents. Not only is it a fun activity for them, it is a special gift that any grandparent will treasure for life!

50. Green Thumb. This is for the gardener in your life...give a plant, flower, tree, pot with seeds, or even gardening tools. You can take it one step further and decorate a pretty pot for them. Then, plant something pretty in it that they can nurture and grow!

51. Games. Board games are cheap gifts and also a great family activity!

52. Fire Pit. If you have a large back yard, why not make a fire pit and have a bonfire on a cold night close to Christmas. Make some s'mores and tell your kids the story of Jesus and why God sent Him. If you do not have a place for a fire pit, just use a grill and pull out some chairs around it! No room for any of this?? Microwave the s'mores, light some candles and have a living room "bonfire".

53. Family Field Day. Do you remember "field day" at school? Create your own family style one. Have sack (pillow cases) races, don't drop the egg, wheel barrel, etc. Seriously, this can be a blast and a new family tradition. If you have a small immediate family, branch out and invite aunts uncles, etc.

54. Books. I love books and so do many of my friends. Most books are affordable-especially if you shop Amazon or an online book store. Even ebooks make GREAT gifts these days! Many are under & ! If your friend is married, why not get her the Proverb's 31 Wife handbook?

55. Make a Gingerbread House. You can either buy a kit, look through some cookbooks, or Google; 'how to make an easy gingerbread house' or 'kid friendly gingerbread house'... or something in that range. Better yet-wing it. That's always the funnest way to do stuff like that.

56. As Seen On TV. My husband LOVES these items! LOL! They actually have an "As Seen On TV" store in a local mall in our town. You can also find many at Target. They are cheap and cool gifts!

57. Library. Check out your local library for story time and other free events they have going on during the holiday season.

58. Gas Card. We all know gas prices are not going to be dropping any time soon-if ever! A gas card can be an AWESOME gift to give!

59. I Love You Because...Fill a jar, gift bag or decorative box with a bunch of notes telling all the reasons you love or appreciate the receiver.

60. Flash Drive. They sell these for less then 10 bucks. Many have cool designs on them as well. This would be a wonderful gift for the techie in your life.

61. Mallow Men. Love this idea from my daughter! Make snow men with marshmallows! GREAT and tasty activity to do! All you need is large jet puffed marshmallows, white frosting (to keep the marshmallow stacks together), pretzel sticks, and a variety small candies to use. Each person creates their own special mallow men!

62. Homemade Flavored Oil. Purchase a tall pretty jar. You can find cheap jars in almost any store. Fill it with olive oil and other tasty flavorings. A few ideas: fresh herbs like rosemary, garlic, peppers, etc. Make it a couple weeks ahead of time so flavors are melded well. Make sure jar is sealed tight as well.

63. Let it Snow...I live in the sunshine State. However, if you have snow in your neck of the woods...enjoy it! Go sledding, make snow angels, build a snow man-have fun!

64. Freebies. Use your free offers as gifts. Let's say you buy a body lotion and you get one free. Give the free one to someone else. Two gifts in one. You can do this with all 'free with purchase' offers. It is a great way to stock up as well. Save all your freebies throughout the year, and you will have a stash of "go to" presents to help keep you on budget!

65. Acronym. Create an acronym for a special person. My daughter loves to do this and I have done it for a few friends. It is a special gift that takes time and effort. However, it is worth it! You will take each letter of their first name and come up with a nice word that describes them. Make it pretty!

66. Candles. Who doesn't love candles??

67. Target Sales. I love Target. I find so many fabulous deals by walking the back wall. They put all of their clearance items (some marked down 75%) on the inside end of almost every isle.

68. Track Santa. We do not celebrate with Santa at all, but a lot of people do, so, if you celebrate Christmas with Santa, there is a cool site that "tracks" where he is on Christmas Eve. It is very cute. (noradsanta.org)

69. Christmas Around the World. Our homeschool group used to do this each year. If you can get a few families together that would be even better. Each family picks a country they will represent. Then you all get together and share several things from your country choice. For example: you will share a little about how they celebrate Christmas, one traditional treat (make sure you give the kids the recipe for it too) and a craft. If you can get at least 3 families together that will make an afternoon of fun for you and the kids. Each kid will come home with a recipe from each country, a craft and fact sheet from each country represented as well.

70. Indoor Camping. If you have a tent, pull it out and set up your "camp site" close (not too close) to your Christmas tree, and create a Christmas camping experience. If you do this the week before Christmas, you may even let the kids open one gift as a special treat. This can become an awesome family tradition that your kids will love and treasure the memories for a lifetime! No tent? No problem! Make a fort with blankets or just throw some blankets on the floor!

71. Family Twister. Without breaking a hip, pull out the old twister game and have a blast with your kids. Make it a competition. Whoever wins gets to open up one present!

72. Fruit Basket. A healthy gift indeed! Make it pretty!

73. Fuzzy Socks. We love fuzzy socks. You can find them at Target, Walmart, pretty much anywhere! They are fuzzy and have cool designs. Very fun and frugal gift!

74. Letters from Home. Have your kids write letters to the troops overseas. It will not only make those in the military smile, it will teach your children patriotism and to appreciate the sacrifice they make for our country!

75. Sponsor a Child. Have you ever seen those trees in stores with names on them? Those are kids that need gifts! I was one of them and someone sponsored me and made my Christmas one year! I was living in a children's home and no one came to visit me on Christmas. I was so thankful...and still am for the person who took the time to get me the few things on my list!

76. Magazine subscription. Buy a one year subscription for a friend/family member's favorite magazine, or hobby magazine you think they would enjoy!

77. Short List. Honestly, it is not frugal to buy for everyone. Shorten your list. Do not break the bank to get everyone a gift! Live and buy within your means. Going broke to give others gifts is not what Christmas is about and they would not want you to do that if they love you anyway!

78. For the Birds. This is a fun activity to do with your kids. Make a homemade bird feeder! Plastic soda bottle, peanut butter and seeds are the basics. Google the rest. Then place your feeder in an area you can view from inside. Hopefully you will soon have some fine feathered friends come to visit!

79. Dollar Bowling. Many bowling alley's have a dollar bowling night. It is a cheap way to get out of the house and have fun with the family. However, a nice Wii bowling night will work too! Those are my favorite nights at home!

80. Popcorn Fun. There are so many things you can do with popcorn. Why not make some flavored popcorn balls? Or use them to create cool Christmas characters (you will need a few other items for this...be creative)? Popcorn is cheap and you can enjoy creating and eating all in one!

81. Candy Cane Craft. We made a reindeer one year, using pipe cleaner for antlers and googly eyes for the eyes. It is amazing what googly eyes, pipe cleaner, glitter and glue can do! Come up with your own creative creatures. have a candy cane craft contest. Skies the limit, here too, ladies. It would also be a great time to share the story of the candy cane...

82. Make a Meal. Give a loved one the night off! This is a fabulous way to share a bit of you with someone...Make them one of your signature recipes and take it over for them to enjoy with their family. You can make it so they can freeze it, or plan ahead so they know to be ready for it.

83. Get Crafty. The best thing about the Internet is that everything is as close as a few key words typed into the search bar. You can find tons of things to do. However, my favorite kid friendly craft site is Kaboose.com They have TONS of ideas to help keep the kids busy and creative!

84. Starbucks. Even a gift card will make someone on your list smile. I know I would love you forever! LOL! Five bucks is good for one fabulous cup of yumminess!

85. Decorate Cookies. Easy, fun and oh so yummy!

86. Visit the Local Zoo. Many zoos are not too expensive for locals. However, if money is too tight for even this idea, visit your local pet store and let the kids cuddle a kitty or puppy. We have one that has fish, kittens, puppies, reptiles, bunnies, and many other animals.

87. NO Credit. Never ever ever buy on credit! You will be paying more for the gifts! Only buy with cash or a debit card. You will save the interest and have more to spend later!

88. Spa at Home. Great for Moms, teenage daughters or both! Find some homemade recipes online. Send out a special invitation to a few of your girlfriends and have a spa at home day. You will each bring ONE inexpensive spa item to contribute and one to give away. Everyone should also bring their own beauty stuff to use. So, you will have your stuff, stuff to share and so on. Put each of the items brought to "give away" in a big "grab bag" and at the end of the party draw straws for order, and let each woman pick a gift from the bag!

89. Collage. This is a great idea for a close friend, relative, Mom or daughter. Create a collage using pictures, memories and things they love. It is sure to bring some loving tears to the receivers eyes.

90. Gift Basket. This can go in just about any direction...crafty, cookies, fruit, sweets, hobby related, spa, movie night, fun, etc.

91. Coffee Mug. Do you have a coffee or mug lover on your list? Buy a nice mug and a bag of their favorite coffee. This is also a great tip for a tea lover or hot cocoa fan!

92. Eat Free Days. Treat the family to a night out to dinner. Just make sure to do it on a "kids eat free" night!

93. Bath and Body Works. They have HUGE sales. You can get 5 lotions or fancy sanitizers for many times throughout the year. That's FIVE gifts! Wrap it up pretty with a personal card and it is a sure winner!

94. Pet lovers. You can get treats, new leash, pet bed, grooming, etc.

95. It's OK to be Practical. Not all gifts need to be knock your socks off original. Try buying a hair cut, socks, mani/pedi, stamps, computer paper, ink, groceries, etc. Be creative in your practicality! LOL!

96. Herb Garden. This is a winner for the cook in your life. Herb gardens are cheap and they do not take up a lot of space.

97. Deck of Cards. If there is a card lover in your life, buy them a deck of cards. Then, Google card games and rules. Print out the rules and give them with the cards. Or, if you have a few extra bucks, buy a card game rule book to go with the cards.

98. The Entertainment® Coupon Book. This is an GREAT gift to give someone. You can get it from your kids school many times or just go to entertainment.com.

99. Christmas Time Capsule. This can be a yearly tradition. Purchase a large Christmas themed box (like the kind you would put a gift in with no wrapping), and every year have each family member put one item in it that represents their year. Then the next year, open it up and enjoy the memory making moments and conversations. Then, repeat it every year! It is an AWESOME way to encourage communication and promote memorable conversation. Keep adding to it year after year to see how life changes. Make sure that you date the items and add a pic of each family member too, or at least a family photo from that year so that you can see the changes over the years. When the kids grow up, Mom will have a box of wonderful memories! (Thanks to my beautiful daughter for this idea!)

100. Date Night. Make a decorative "certificate" that states the bearer will receive free child watching services. Basically, you will watch a friend or family member's kids so they can have a night off!

101. Take a Year Off! Try a NO Receiving ONLY Giving Year. This can be a real character building opportunity for the whole family and a great way to teach giving is better than receiving. It is important to teach our children-and ourselves to be generous.

I hope these ideas inspire you to spend time with your family, build memories, get creative with gift giving and most of all SAVE money!

Furniture Style - Go With Luxury Accent Furniture

Is there a room in your home that just doesn't seem finished? Or are you about to redo a room in your home and are not sure if you have all of the elements you need to make it the space you want? Well then its time to listen up and learn about one of this year's decorating trends and what you need to have in place in your home to be in style with 2010 furniture fashion.

Round Black Coffee Tables

Luxury is in!

Round Black Coffee Tables

One of the main themes of furniture and décor for 2010 is luxury. Glamour is also a part of this. That means you can make your home as fancy as you want and enjoy the feeling of luxury.

When many people start to decorate a room, they don't even consider accent furniture. They are thinking of all the big pieces of furniture that define a room. In the dining room that means the dining room table and chairs. In the living room it's the sofa and coffee table, in the bedroom it's the bed and dresser, and so on. But there are still a number of other pieces of furniture that have to be considered before a room can be considered decorated.

Really, when it comes to decorating, it is in the accent furniture that you are going to put in a room that will really decorate the space and define it.

So, when it comes to a luxury theme, it's time to start getting a closer look at the accents you are going to put in this room and make sure they are rich and luxurious pieces. In the bedroom this means you can consider nightstands, accent tables and other small pieces of furniture that are functional and can also be attractive. In the living room end tables, shelving and other accent pieces of furniture can be included. In the dining room buffets, tea carts and other pieces of serving furniture can be a part of these accents.

So, what type of luxury are you looking for? That is going to depend in part on the type of décor you have in place in the room already. Unless you are going to completely start from scratch and decorate the room, you need to make sure that you choose pieces that go with the decorative style already in place, but add that opulent feeling to it.

For rooms that are decorated in a Victorian theme this may mean a piece that is decorated with detailed carvings of flower designs. In a modern home, perhaps a table that could be as much a centerpiece at a modern art show as it is a piece for your living room. If you have a country theme or some other traditional theme, you are going to want something that suits, such as wood furniture pieces that are intricately carved and possibly even accented with gold or silver gilding.

These pieces, once in your home, will add to the decorative style you have already begin and turn things up a notch to add that air of luxury to the space.

Loew's Home Improvement - Have You Shopped at Loew's?

One of my favorite childhood memories was going to Loew's Home Improvement stores with my grandfather, who was a general contractor. I would go into the store with him once or twice a week to pick up the materials he needed for a job, and to this day whenever I walk into a store I'm reminded of pushing a huge cart. Even though I'd sometimes run the it into people or display racks, my grandfather always let me push the cart when I asked him to. I remember him having a great rapport with the people who worked there, and we were constantly stopping to talk to one employee or another. They always seemed extremely knowledgeable and kind, and I genuinely looked forward to visiting with them whenever we went shopping there.

Round Black Coffee Tables

To this day, whenever I need materials for a project (which isn't very frequently, I'm not very handy), I look forward to walking through the automatic doors and breathing in the scent of the wood that is sold there. Like the days when I was a child, the store employees are still very nice and they always seem to know what they're talking about. Unlike at other chain stores, I never hesitate to ask an employee a question. Without fail at Loew's Home Improvement stores, if the employee I ask doesn't know how to help, he or she will find somebody who can.

Round Black Coffee Tables

I really get the feeling as though Loew's Home Improvement stores are bigger versions of the small town shops you see in old movies. Everyone's friendly and willing to lend you a hand. For me, Loew's Home Improvement stores are the only ones I'll go to for home related things. The store has really built a relationship with me, and I'm happy to take my paycheck there (even if it isn't with my grandpa).

A Writing Plan - Your First Step in Becoming a Best-Selling Novelist

Before you lock yourself in your room to write that best-selling novel or whatever, you should honestly ask yourself what you want to accomplish. If all you want to do is pen a few poems or write some lines of prose for your own amusement, then go now with my blessing and enjoy. But, if you want your talent to be recognized and rewarded and long lasting then you will need a "plan" of some sort before you start.

Round Black Coffee Tables

Because writing is not an exact science, there are no rules you must obey. What follows are only "suggestions" that I have found useful over the years.

Round Black Coffee Tables

Making up your mind:
The first thing you should do is to commit yourself to writing. This means believing in your talent enough to visualize your success before it actually happens. On a Seinfeld television episode a few years back, Kramer planned going on a long trip. His friends doubted him, but Kramer pointed to his head and told Jerry, "Up here, baby, I'm already gone!" Of course, the line got laughs because Kramer was a real "gone" character. But the point it makes is that once your mind tells you something is true then your body will follow. So, commit yourself to your dream of becoming a successful writer--see it happening!--and before you know it success will be yours. They say faith can move mountains. Let your faith in your own ability bring mountains of personal and financial rewards to your doorstep.

Communicating your intentions:
After you resolve that you are serious about your writing, you must relate that same seriousness to your family and friends. I realize that writers who are married to non-writers find this difficult. But you must try to make your loved ones know how committed you are. In the movie, "Cool Hand Luke," Paul Newman as Luke is dragged back in chains after he tries to escape from a backwoods southern prison. The warden, apparently believing that Luke didn't fully understand the consequences of his act, calls all the inmates together and tries to get poor Luke's "head straight" by saying, "What we have here is a failure to communicate." So, before you place your spouse or kids in leg irons for disturbing you, make certain you communicate with them from the start. Tell them you need time to write. Set down some rules. Don't fail to communicate beforehand how serious you are. Then, if these rules are broken by anyone, feel free to bring out the shackles.

Staking out your space:
After you have made your commitment and communicated your intentions to your loved ones and friends, you need to locate a suitable space where you can write without interruption. The ideal solution, of course, is to have an "office"--a separate room in your home or apartment reserved exclusively for writing. It took me almost 35 years to get to this point. And I relish it. But, for decades, I wrote wherever I could find a quiet spot. For instance, my first so-called office was in the basement. It consisted of an old workbench next to the coal furnace. Later, I set up my trusty Royal typewriter in the attic. Like Stephen King, you may find your niche beneath a stairway, or, perhaps, in a second bathroom which Erma Bombeck used to pen some of her best-syndicated columns.

The main thing you have to look for is a space that is relatively quiet and away from possible interruptions. This is why I don't advocate writing on the kitchen table or in the living room or any room frequented by other family members. You can't expect them to tiptoe quietly around you while you work.

If you can't find a quiet place at home, consider this idea: Get a job! By that I mean part-time solitary employment, such as a cashier in an all-night parking garage, a night watchman, or night bridge tender--all jobs I have worked at and used to my advantage. Not only do you put a few dollars in your pocket, but such jobs also offer you hours of quiet solitude and even supply you with free coffee and office space. How can you go wrong?

There are many "mindless jobs" out there that offer the writer a superb place to write. So, if you can't write at home, get out of the house and write. For years, I penned my newspaper articles on yellow legal pads in the front seat of my old Buick during my lunch break. Then I'd go back to the office and pound out the story in a matter of minutes, much to the amazement of my colleagues. A friend of mine liked to write in the library where she had access to as many books as she liked. Hemingway and others sketched a lot of their stories in cafes and saloons. So, lack of proper space should not be an excuse not to write.

Finding the time:
Experts say the ideal plan is to have a set routine where you write each and every day at the same time. Personally, I find this difficult, especially when writing at home. So, rather than being held accountable to a clock, I prefer to set a goal for myself based on the amount of words I can produce. For instance, if I can chisel out 500 words a day, I'm satisfied.

The way I look at it is that in three days I have the first draft for a column like this one; in ten days I have enough words for a short story, and in a hundred days I have the makings for a novella or a good chunk of a novel. This way I'm not locked into a timetable that I know I can't possibly keep day after day. If my muse is in a good mood, I might get out a thousand or more words in one day. When this happens, I head out to the golf course the next day without any guilt.

Of course, each writer is a little different. Decide for yourself what is best for you. But, don't set unrealistic goals and then give up when those goals aren't met. Your writing plan--like writing itself--should be enjoyable and within your capabilities.

Getting started:
Once you have your space and the time to write, the fun part starts. You stare at that blank sheet of paper or empty computer screen. You adjust your chair. You crack your knuckles. You scratch your head and ... nothing!

Okay, don't panic. Take a deep breath and look around you. What do you see? Now, describe your surroundings as if you were writing to your best friend. Don't worry about punctuation, grammar--just write! Once you get going, change gears--don't stop!--go directly into what you wanted to write in the first place. Your mind is like a locomotive. Once it builds up steam, it will roll along swiftly and almost effortlessly. But you have to jog that big engine out of the station first. You will be surprised that, many times, it pays to write before you think.

Sticking with it:

The hardest part of writing at home for many writers is the guilt that goes along with it. You tell yourself you should be spending more time with your loved ones. All writers have struggled with this dilemma of how to balance writing time with the needs of family and friends.

Author James Faulkner once missed his son's birthday party because he needed to write and was told, "I'll bet Shakespeare didn't miss his son's birthday party." Faulkner shot back, "Who cares about Shakespeare's kids?"

This disregard for the feelings of others may sound harsh, but the point Faulkner makes is that if you believe you are destined to be a great writer you often have to be selfish. The amount of time you spend writing--alone, away from family, friends, and other worldly distractions--will determine the degree of success you will eventually receive.

And, this "selfish" attitude also means being selfish toward yourself as well. You can't give into your personal craving to watch television, or go shopping, or play a round of cards with your friends. You have to be as tough with yourself as you are with others. Remember, like most things in life, you have to work at it if you want to succeed. But you should enjoy writing enough to make these small sacrifices. Your journey to success should be a pleasurable one, albeit a difficult one at times.

Finishing the task:
There is no greater joy in the writing process than typing "The End" on the last page of your manuscript. It signifies you accomplished what you had set out to do. Like James Caan in the movie "Misery" after he finally finished the novel to Kathy Bates' liking, it's time to light up that cigarette and drink a glass of your favorite wine. You've earned it.

But wait! You still need to re-examine your work one last time before you mail it out. Have you followed the publisher's writing guidelines? Is your submission free from misspelled words, or typographical and grammatical errors? Is your manuscript typed neatly with adequate margins and enough space between the lines to allow for editing changes? Did you include a SASE with adequate postage for a reply or return of your manuscript? Are you certain you spelled the editor's name correctly? Have you spelled your own name correctly? Yes, a writer's lot is not an easy one.

But would any of us change it for another occupation?

I think not.

So, plan today for a rewarding tomorrow.

The Secrets to Managing Difficult Training Session Attendees

Have you ever kicked off your shoes after leading a particularly difficult training session and wanted to just give up! Leading training sessions can be great when you've got an energized group that's ready and willing to contribute to the discussion, asks probing questions, and absorbs the material like a sponge. Unfortunately, most trainers have had the grueling experience of dealing with difficult attendees that seem to thwart the best laid plans. Indeed, it is amazing how one truly problematic attendee can dampen and even destroy the learning experience for the entire group. The good news is that there are very effective methods trainers can use to manage these challenging personalities. We will explore four of these most common challenging personalities and provide you practical techniques you can use to manage them effectively. If you are a trainer and you haven't yet encountered these personalities, please take notes because you will!

Round Black Coffee Tables

"The Know It All"

Round Black Coffee Tables

Most trainers have encountered the "know it all" at one point or another. This attendee insists (either explicitly or more passively) that they are an expert on the topic (to which I always wonder to myself "why are they taking the training?"), and they are insistent on demonstrating that expertise throughout the course of the training event. They may go out of their way to challenge the trainer, dominate class discussion, pose questions specifically designed to stump or trick the trainer, pose much more advanced questions clearly beyond the scope of the course, or contradict the trainer during sidebar conversations with their tablemates or others attending the training event. Here are a few suggestions for dealing with "The Know it All".

Acknowledge their expertise (if you feel they do have valid points) and call on them to comment occasionally. Don't be at all intimidated if an attendee clearly has expertise in the topic area. This person could be a great "go to" person to help provide examples, offer opinions/input from their work environment, share war stories, etc. Remember that you attract more bees with honey than vinegar so avoid any temptation to be confrontational. The "Know it All" can become a great asset to you if you manage them correctly J

If they're offering valid comments but maybe dominating the conversation a bit, reiterate/validate their comment by writing it visibly for all to see, and then ask for other ideas to complete the list. (e.g. "Steven, it sounds like you're suggesting that we use approach x in this scenario...is that correct? That's a great suggestion. Let's compile a list of several suggestions, then discuss them all. We'll list your suggestion as "A" on the list. I'd like to get at least three other suggestions from the group. What do others think?")

If they're offering comments that you don't necessarily agree with, avoid the temptation to argue with the attendee. I've found that there are very few black and white answers in the workplace; instead there are more shades of grey. If they are offering "expertise" that you feel is incorrect, thank them for their feedback and ask for other's input (e.g. "Steven, that's an interesting idea/approach/suggestion. What do others think about that idea? What have you found that works well in your environment?") Note: If they suggest something that is clearly incorrect or ill-advised, let the group know that you disagree (and offer alternate suggestions) to ensure the group doesn't absorb erroneous information.

If they explicitly challenge you on a point, acknowledge the validity of your point but ask them to elaborate on their experience as well and summarize both experiences with the group. (e.g. Steven, although we're recommending that the project team develop their project charter within the first two weeks, it sounds like that might be challenging in your environment. Tell me more about what has worked better in your environment....So, to summarize the key take aways from this conversation for the larger group, I would certainly recommend that you strive to document the project charter within the first two weeks or so; however, recognize that there could be situations like Steven's (where he was leading an international project disrupted by a major reorganization days after the project start) where that may not be practical. That's certainly reality so it's great to not only discuss the best practice but also take a look at how we might react during extreme conditions as well.)

Use the round robin technique (go around the room asking each person to share a comment) and start at the opposite end of the table from the know it all (e.g. "This is such an important issue that I want to be sure I'm getting everyone's ideas. Let's do a quick round robin starting with Jill...")

Take a break and solicit the know it all's support offline ("Steven, you've brought up several key points. Thanks for that input! I'm hoping to get some of the other team members involved in the discussion to hear their ideas as well. Some members of the group are not as assertive, but I want to be sure we hear from them.")

The MultiTasking Attendee

Nothing is more frustrating than leading a training session only to have several people blatantly texting on their PDA, reading the latest Us Weekly, or even taking a phone call during your event. You can take steps to manage multitasking behavior. Don't become visibly frustrated. Try these best practices instead.

Bring the issue up to the group at the start of the session and decide as a group how you want to handle technology distractions. Options may include the following:

- Use a "technology drop box" at the front of the classroom and agreeing to drop in all phones, etc. prior to start of the session
- Agree on 10 minute technology breaks every hour
- Agree on a mild punishment for violators (e.g. one group suggested that the instructor can answer any ringing phones, another group suggested anyone caught texting must sing a stanza of Take Me Out to the Ballgame)

Use facilitation techniques that keep participants actively engaged:

- Round robin
- Active questioning
- Affinity diagramming
- Sub team work
- Dot voting

Also, constantly rotate participants working at the flip chart or whiteboard

Use a circular or U shape room setup that allows you to easily walk around (and near) violators quite easily. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of walking around constantly! Teach from every corner of the room.

Pose a question to the multitasker (Chris, what are your thoughts on that idea?)

The Wet Blanket Attendee

We've all experienced the person who is always whining, "But, that'll never work in my environment!" This constant whining/negativity can certainly undermine the effectiveness of the training. Remember these tips the next time you encounter a "wet blanket".

In a non-defensive tone, ask them for alternatives that would work in their environment (e.g. Julie, it looks like you're not quite buying into that recommendation. What do you think would work more effectively in your environment?)

Question why they doubt the effectiveness of the approach and highlight/challenge any erroneous assumptions they may be making (e.g. Julie, it sounds like you're questioning our suggestion that the Project Manager prioritize the project's focus on cost, time, and quality because your sponsor insisted that they were all equally important on your last project. In retrospect do you think any of the three triple constraints had a higher priority from the external client's perspective?... Oh, so time was really the most important driver? So, it seems that in your case the project sponsor was somewhat misinformed. So, it sounds like the recommendation to prioritize the triple constraint elements is still valid, but we can't always assume that our internal sponsor has the correct information."

Solicit support for the recommended approach or learning point from the group (e.g. "It sounds like Julie isn't convinced. Has anyone successfully used this approach? Bob, please share your experience.")

Admit that the recommended approach is not perfect (no approach is), but highlight the benefits. Also, acknowledge the danger of doing nothing. (e.g. Clearly, there is no perfect solution. Conducting risk analysis won't eliminate all risk on the project, but if we don't conduct it, we're managing the project blind and leaving ourselves open to significant risk without any plan for mitigating it.)

The Vacuum (sucks up all your time wanting you to solve his problems at work)

You know this attendee. They are very engaged with tons of questions because they're dealing with this exact issue on their job right now and they want you to fix it for them! The vacuum attendee is dangerous because they may want you to spend an hour explaining every detail of a topic you'd only allocated ten minutes for. They may also have a laundry list of questions and impede others' ability to ask their questions. You might be tempted to avoid them or shut them down abruptly. Don't do it. Instead, try these techniques.

Thank them for their zealous participation and acknowledge the time allocated for that section (e.g. Carrie, it sounds like you've worked a lot with business plans; unfortunately, I need to closely monitor our time to ensure I can get everyone out by 4:00 as we committed. Since we've spent about 30 minutes on this section, can we possibly hold that question until the end of class so I can be sure we've made it through all the material)?

Ask them to place their question on the parking lot (Carrie, we're running short on time for this section, but I don't want to miss your question. Would you mind jotting it down on a sticky note and placing that on the Parking Lot so I can review it at our next break?)

If they're asking questions beyond the scope of the course or going into more detail than intended ask the group if others are interested in more details/examples and offer to discuss it in more detail during break or after class. (e.g. Carrie, it sounds like you've worked a lot with business plans; unfortunately, if we go into detail on the financial calculations, it'll take about thirty additional minutes of class time. If there's interest in that, I'm more than happy to take the time to do it, but I don't want to rush through it. I'll review those calculations for anyone who is interested right after class ends. Anyone else interested?)

If you feel they're dominating the questioning, ask for questions from others. (e.g. We've gotten great questions from this side of the room, but the other side has been somewhat quiet. What questions do you guys have?)

One of the best facilitation tools you can use is the development of Ground Rules. Write, post, and review ground rules at the beginning of the session and ask for the group's buy in on them. Explicitly ask if there are any ground rules listed that someone can't buy into. Certain ground rules should be proposed to serve as a support system for you should you encounter difficult attendees. Sample ground rules might include the following:

- Balanced input from the group - everyone participates!
- No multitasking - Laptops closed/PDAs down J
- Don't hesitate to question
- Remember there may not be one right answer - be open to different approaches
- Stick to time limits
- Have fun!

Keep in mind that no one technique will be effective with every attendee. Your arsenal of techniques should be as varied as the different personalities you will encounter. Our intention is not to provide the silver bullet (because there obviously isn't one); instead, we offer a wide variety of techniques that will hopefully expand your facilitation toolbox. Your challenge is to decide which tool will work best in each situation. Remember that if you're bothered by a difficult attendee, others most likely are as well. As the training facilitator one of your roles is ambassador on behalf of all attendees. Don't make the mistake that so many trainers make of sticking your head in the sand and hoping that difficult attendee simply gets lost coming back from the restroom and never returns. Take a deep breath, smile, and use these techniques....THEY WORK!
